Video Story Problems - 2013

I had a wonderful opportunity to work with a small group of Fifth Graders each Thursday afternoon as part of our Math RTI (Response to Intervention) program. The idea was to challenge these five math wizzes by having them create real world math story problems told in video form. We had a great year and the half hour I got to spend with them each Thursday was a fun part of my week.

Ian • Brady • Emily • Anthony • Noah

See if you are up to the challenges. There are no answers at the bottom of the page or at the back of a teachers' manual. Challenge someone else and see if you get the same results.

Anthony gives us this problem that Bob is facing at his Lemonade Stand.

Try figuring out this money problem from Noah about what to do with too many doughnuts.

Here is a tricky one about a busy day in class by Emily.

Here is a story problem for you from Brady about some bad strawberries.

Ian helps us understand when we would actually divide fractions.

Finally, check out this major group effort. It's a story problem but also is refective as the kids share all that went into building it and how they enjoyed doing math this way.
