Be a Leader Challenge

At Blue Star Elementary, 5th grade students were given an essential question to answer.

How can I be a leader in our school and a positive example of our behavior expectations to other students?

A number of solutions were explored as evidenced in this Google Document .
Students came to the consensus that given time constraints and that the goal of the project was to leverage technology into the solution, then videos and an assembly were the best option.

Students planned and wrote scripts together via Google Docs.
They conferenced with Mr. Losik to insure they were telling the full message.

Next came storyboarding and finally production.

The following expectations were laid out.

Learning target: I can share a message digitally through video.

1. Plan and script your production.
2. Shoot and direct footage.
3. Edit your video so that:

a. the message is clear to understand and hear.
b. you focus on what to do and not just what not to do.
c. you give credit to those involved and to any resources you used.
4. Look good and make sense

Our Film Festival was a huge success with 250 students cheering and genuinely excited about manners of all things. The fifth graders not only did a wonderful job on their videos, but presented them along with the behavior expectations in a truly classy manner.
